Steve was ordained as Zen Buddhist priest in the Soto Zen tradition-he and his
wife Nita founded the Sangha of the Compassionate Heart in Long Beach. Steve
identified his spiritual practice as "Gratitude" and said that the
experience of living life and almost losing life with his three heart surgeries
changed him forever.
He loved to write poetry, sing and play his guitar. His poems will be shared in
his memorial service.

Steve became a member at our center in 2006 and was very active with classes and service here. He liked the early service and often kept count of the numbers attending. Prior to coming to Sonoma county he had many years of service at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Long Beach Ca where he taught the Youth Group.
Steve passed away suddenly from congestive heart failure. He was married to Nita Hon for 39 years. In addition to his long career in human services;Steve was a Soto Zen Buddhist priest who practiced Zen in every aspect of his life. Steve wrote poetry and loved to sing and play his guitar. He is remembered as a loving and loyal friend who genuinely cared for others. Celebration of Life service to be held. Saturday, August 11 @ 2 pm Center for Spiritual Living in Santa Rosa. Please rsvp to Siota Belle @ 707-566-6895.
RIP Steve. It was a pleasure to know you. My sincerest condolences to family and friends.
ReplyDeleteHi Uncle Steve, I was viewing Aunt Nita's sock symposium online and this popped up in the google feed. You are always on my mind and in my heart everyday and always. I was sitting and thinking of you this morning, while I contemplated kindness, and here you are; reminding me that you love me and you are never far away. I miss you deep in my soul, I miss your Wednesday phone calls, and the way you always said my name when you told me you love me, "I love you, Elizabeth." Well I love you too Uncle Steve... <3 Elizabeth
